The Magical Face

Once upon a time, a milkman named Ramesh had two wives. Her first wife, Devika, grew less attractive with age, so he married another woman named Roshni, who was beautiful. Everything went smoothly for a while, but as days and weeks passed, Roshni became proud of her beauty and started behaving arrogantly towards Devika.

One day, Ramesh called out for Roshni. Devika came and asked, “Did you call me?”

No, I was calling Roshni,” Ramesh replied.

Devika:  “Roshni is combing her hair. Tell me what you need, I will do it,”

Suddenly, Roshni appeared and said to Devika, “You couldn't wait and started backbiting about me as soon as I was delayed.”

Devika (Defened herself) :  “No, Roshni, I was not backbiting about you,", Roshni, you misunderstand.

Roshni (Reported): I left my work incomplete to groom my hair, and you consider that not worth mentioning? Am I a fool to misunderstand?

Ramesh: Stop quarreling , My beautiful wife, why do you pick fights? Tomorrow morning, I'm going to the city for work and will return at night.

Roshni (Demanded): Don't forget to bring me a new sari and ornaments from the city.

Ramesh (asked Devika): Do you need anything else?

Devika: No, your safety is more important to me. I want you to return safe and sound.

Later, Devika stood in front of a mirror and thought, “It's better for me to leave this house and village, so no one will criticize me there”

Devika wandered into the jungle and met a sage.

Devika (Pleaded): I'm so fortunate to see you, Moniver. Please bless me.

Moniver (Instructed) :  I know the reason for your sadness and see that you are kind-hearted. Go to the nearby pond, and take a dip in it.

Devika did as told and miraculously she became beautiful. She went back home and told Roshni, I went to the jungle, met a priest, and he asked me to take a dip in a pond. That's how I became beautiful.

Roshni, eager to become even more beautiful, went to the jungle and met Moniver. Can you show me the way to the pond that will make me beautiful?

Moniver (Directed): Take a dip in that nearby pond.

Roshnin took a dip in the pond, but to her horror, she became ugly, Ashamed, Roshni never returned to the village and lived in the jungle.

Moral: If you do good, you will receive good in return. Goodness never goes unrewarded.
